Rosie and Stephen Wren
Rosie and Stephen are relatively new to ceramics and got their start during a wheel-throwing class at Calapooia Clay in May 2022. Rosie was immediately hooked and continued to take classes until becoming a full member and open studio manager at Calapooia. This year, after taking a hand-building class, Stephen joined Rosie in the studio, and together they started Wren Song Pottery. You can view their work and pottery journey on Instagram. They focus on hand building slowly-crafted, small-batch, functional art.
Even though Stephen has only been practicing for a couple of months, he has found his place as a sgraffito artist. This technique came naturally to him, and it has been a great way for him to bring his love of wildlife into pottery.
Rosie hasn’t settled into any style of pottery, but she does enjoy layering underglaze transfers, playing with new mug shapes, finding unique glaze combinations and dabbling in all forms of hand-building. Recently, she has enjoyed making paint palettes, buttons and earrings.
Outside of the pottery studio, Rosie and Stephen enjoy nature walks at Finely Wildlife Refuge and playing and designing board games.
