“My current clay work runs along two lines—decorative raku wall pieces that I sell in galleries, and soda-fired stoneware wall and garden art. My deep interest in the life and art of prehistoric people is beginning to find expression in my cave-art inspired wall pieces. I see myself as a conduit for the primitive, the feral, the part of our humanity that we knew as hunter-gatherers, including our relationship to animals.

“I have worked in clay for more than 40 years. I have made functional pottery, architectural-scale pots and murals, fountains and sculpture. My fascination with clay continues to grow. I teach a raku class at Linn Benton Community College and Art & Nature for Kids workshops for the Audubon Society of Corvallis.  As my teacher, Esther James, has said, ceramics involves a mastery of three realms—forming, glazing and firing. A long, deeply rewarding journey.
