Jess Felix
“I completed fine art school majoring in sculpture in 2004 at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia. Exploring clay as a modeling material back then opened me up to the world of experimentation and a love for ceramics.
"My work broadly focuses on the themes of home and a symbolic landscape, of illuminating women’s stories, of the earth’s and our interconnection to both.
“While I raise my kids, I continue to work with 3-10 pieces at one time, taking over my kitchen table or my little studio in the forest.
“I predominately hand-built with some casting add-ons and my knowledge is in mid-fire stoneware. I like to make interesting textures, organic and irregular forms that have hand-drawn shapes and designs etched into them, so you see a few techniques in one piece. My ceramic's practice has been an important touchstone for me in expressing myself and remaining in awe of the world, reminding me of the alchemy and earthiness that we all are part of.
“I enjoy sharing my love and knowledge of clay and sculpting at various art and education centers and schools in the Willamette Valley. For works in creation, fresh out of the kiln and happenings, check out @jessfelixstudio.”
