“I rediscovered clay in 1991, after a 25-year hiatus. A local show of clay masks inspired me to sign up for a class and make time in my life for art. I’ve been hand-building ceramic forms ever since. My mentors have been the instructors of the Linn Benton Community College ceramics program, the potters who have generously shared their knowledge, and the art teachers of my teen years. Their support and encouragement were positively grounding. It’s good to be back.

“My passion is for clay itself, and the process of building sculptural forms which often resemble human or animal figures and gestures. The themes reflect my spiritual connection to the natural world, an appreciation of forms in nature, and a quirky sense of humor. Birds and frogs, which often appear in the work, are creatures I have spent countless hours observing and with whom I feel a particular affinity. Human and animal forms often intertwine, in homage to mythologies and the possibility of transformation.

“Time spent working with clay is internal and meditative for me and provides ideal balance for the intensive interpersonal focus of my work as a psychotherapist.  I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have found work in two such satisfying arenas. The possibilities continue to feel infinite.”
