“These pieces are the result of my thirty-year journey with clay. Starting with a beginner’s wheel throwing class at the LBCC Benton Center in the early 1980s, my work has evolved from throwing functional pots on the potter’s wheel to narrative hand-built sculptures incorporating different themes.
“Inspired by the vibrant collage of color, texture, patterns and smells on my morning walks in McDonald Forest, I enter a meditative state. As my mind relaxes, the origins of my artistic ‘process’ emerge as I enter a reverie. Place and time blur, and I find myself emerging from a thought process—unsure of my whereabouts, but with so many ideas bursting forth. Daydreams of I want to create, how to solve a sculptural problem on a current wok-in-process, ideas of how to finish a piece… There is always something tugging me forward.
“While walking, I also reflect on the web of energy that ties our spirits to each other and the world around us. My energy is transfused into every sculptural piece that I make. I like the idea of art made by someone's hand and how the creator’s energy becomes a part of the work and how that energy is transmitted to others.
“As an artist, the greatest satisfaction comes from knowing I have impacted someone on a spiritual level, making a small impression and a positive impact on their own spirit. As a conduit tying my energy to others, my art is a message of hope and joy to the world, waiting to be heard.”
